Lenovo offers a range of detachable smartphone accessory modules, called Moto Mods, for its Moto Z series smartphones. So far a power pack, a speaker and a mini-projector have been available.

Now the company has launched a new addition at IFA in Berlin that is especially interesting to mobile photographers: the Hasselblad True Zoom.

The True Zoom’s body is made from a plastic material. The zoom lens offers an equivalent range of mm and a F3. Optical image stabilization is on board as well, and the module can record p Full-HD video.

So how long are doing with our smartphones, a few years? Especially phones with Android software are notorious for just 1 or 2 system updates before they become completely uninteresting to it’s manufacturers.

Then what if we buy a new one, what to do with this expensive add-on module? It will become worthless. Bad investment if you ask me.

This thing sits in the pocket with your phone and isn’t dust proof nor drop proof. It won’t even last the life of one phone let alone one or two Android update.

I still feel strongly that the right product for most photogs isn’t a ‘serious camera smartphone’ but a ‘serious camera with Android’. Maybe this is a stretch for Canon, but surely Sony, who already makes smartphones, could throw a touchscreen on an a7III and let me do basic post-processing and photo-sharing right on the back of my camera?
